About 50 minutes from the airport on the GC-1.

Car hire in Mogán and Puerto de Mogán

Playa de Mogán is a small, protected village, so you won't find the row of desks you get at the airport: there is something in the surrounding area, and most of the municipality's offices are spread around Puerto Rico and Arguineguín. So the useful question isn't only where to rent, but where to bring the car from and what that journey costs in time.

The two real options, and when to pick each

The first is to collect at the airport and drive down the GC-1: about fifty minutes, motorway nearly all the way, the biggest fleet and the longest opening hours, and you step off the plane with the car sorted. The second is to collect nearby, in Puerto Rico or around Mogán, getting there by bus or taxi: less to choose from and shorter hours, but no journey. The first wins with luggage and children; the second, if you only want a car for a couple of days mid-week.

Market Friday changes the rules

On Friday mornings the market fills Playa de Mogán with people and cars, and the village simply runs out of room. If you're here that day, the big car park by the harbour is the only sensible bet, and it pays to arrive early. Hunting for a street space at eleven on a Friday is forty minutes gone.

The road that justifies the car

The GC-200 leaves Mogán towards La Aldea de San Nicolás, one of the most spectacular roads in the Canaries: up the ravine, tight bends, cliff on one side. It's narrow and far more enjoyable in a small car than an estate. From here the road also climbs to Mogán village and the reservoir. Neither is a trip the bus lets you make on your own terms.

Frequently asked questions

Can you rent a car in Playa de Mogán?

There is an office or two around Puerto de Mogán, but the choice is small. Where you really get options within the municipality is Puerto Rico, fifteen minutes away, and where the fleet and opening hours are widest is the airport, about fifty minutes on the GC-1. Compare all three before deciding.

How long is it from the airport to Puerto de Mogán?

About fifty minutes on the GC-1, dual carriageway nearly the whole way. It's an easy stretch even at night and straight off a flight. The last few kilometres, past Puerto Rico, are ordinary road with gentle bends.
