Guided Walking Tour of the Old Town of Las Palmas

Vegueta was the foundational nucleus of Las Palmas, the place where in 1478 the troops of the conqueror Juan Rejón established the first military camp, which he named Real de las Palmas, after the palm trees that stood in the area and gave the city its name. It was also the first Castilian settlement in the Atlantic, and since then, it has been the center of political, religious, and administrative life on the island, as well as the place where the Crown of Castile began the Conquest of the Canary Islands.

We will stroll along Calle de los Balcones, Plaza de San Martín, Plaza de Pilar Nuevo, the old street of the Portuguese with the 15th-century Hospital San Martín, and weave through winding alleys to admire the first noble houses built after the conquest of the island. We will visit Plaza de Santa Ana, a monumental complex of emblematic buildings representative of society, concluding at the Casa de los Gobernadores or Museo Casa Colón (entry not included in the price).
