The south of Gran Canaria wakes up early, and in Mogán breakfast is almost a ritual. Each town has its own character: Arguineguín is the place for traditional breakfasts, cortado, toast and the morning paper, but also where the most interesting brunch and specialty coffee spots have opened, like Guayoyo Meeting Point or Tintiro. Up in Mogán old town, tucked between mountains, Molino Quemado has become a little weekend pilgrimage: its brunch is by far the most searched-for in the municipality, and you'll want to arrive before 11 to avoid queueing for a table.
Down on the tourist coast, coffee changes accent. In Puerto Rico, 928 Bar proves you can get a serious flat white ten minutes from the beach, and in Puerto de Mogán, the "little Venice", breakfast beside the canals is one of those things that make getting up early on holiday worthwhile. And there are quirks we love: a bookshop-café where the coffee smells of paper, and a Danish bakery in Arguineguín that explains why half of Scandinavia winters here.
